The 18th of February, it was a bright day and the atmosphere was quite clear and from all I could see, it was apparent that the day was going to be a good one.
The open day commenced at about 11:00am and parents were already in because of the meeting with the Director that took place earlier in the day. As a result of this, they went to the classes to see respective teachers with their wards as soon as the meeting was over.
The day began gradually with parents going to meet teachers concerning the progress of their wards in the academic year. It further went down to sample lecture lessons where some tutors showed parents and visiting students of other schools how lectures are conduced in Oxbridge.
The first class was the Key skills class with Mrs. Erukuebami. The class consisted of a few students from S.T&T, Dansol High School, Babington Macaulay, Vivian Fowler Memorial College and other visitors. The business IFY students were talking about a presentation on the History and Food in the UK and this had to be shown through PowerPoint for their points to be better emphasized. There was a lot of laughter and ideas were also shared in the course of this class and at the end, the visiting students left with some piece of information from the presentation. Other classes also took place and at the end, the amount of people in school reduced.
Besides that, there were University representatives in the school hall that the parents and their wards could speak to concerning their future education and also to make enquiries regarding the grades requirement, the school fees and other basic stuff related to the schools. The schools present were; the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan, University of Leeds, Sheffield University, Salford University, University of Liverpool, and University of Bradford, mostly all schools affiliated with the Northern Consortium United Kingdom (NCUK).
Guess what happened next? Dark clouds appeared all of a sudden and it was quite evident that it was going to rain, but really the weather these days cannot be predicted, so no one was actually sure of the situation; however, people started leaving in case it actually rained. It rained heavily though, consistently for a few hours.
The day finally ended with students, their parents and visitors leaving school for their respective homes. Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek once said, ‘A man has always to be busy with his thoughts if anything is to be accomplished’. If the day wasn’t that pre-occupied, nothing would’ve been achieved. It was useful after all :-)
