Seun ODUYALE, Winner of this months Character Counts (Responsibility)

Responsibility is probably one of the most important human traits that every individual should possess. Responsibility shows the ability of an individual to command excellence and how effective and efficient that person could be as a leader. Avoiding some procedures and using a ‘mago-mago’ style to be able to achieve something, so everybody else sees you as a leader won’t help in any way. Doing something properly and then taking responsibility for all subsequent consequences in their entirety will boost that person’s character and demanded respect from others.

The nominees for the responsibility trait in the Character Counts event, which is usually announced every month, was announced on 21st Wednesday, 2012. The nominees were:
  • Ugo Njoku-Obi
  • Toyosi Adeyemi
  • Seun Oduyale
  • Folarin, Adeola Bamigboye
  • Orojo Oluwatamilore,

Being a nominee is a great thing (so well done those above!), but then being nominated the winner is another.

The winner, Seun Oduyale, was announced and even the Managing Director of the college, Dr (Mrs) C.O Ogunsanya who spared time from her busy schedule to be in attendance said she would have been taken aback if it were someone else. He was a prefect in his secondary school, International School of Lagos (ISL) and he was known for being, ‘the boy who could make something out of nothing’. Seun has shown exemplary leadership during his stint in Oxbridge Tutorial College. He was nominated by his classmates as the person who was most likely to represent the entire class in SRC meetings, he contested and he won. He didn’t stop there. He also contested for the post of the SRC President and he was successful. Seun wanted to prove that his term would be a successful one; most students didn’t take him seriously but he was ready to carry on with his duties.

He planned and arranged, with the other SRC members, two of arguably the most successful parties and other events that the school has had and also had the opportunity to give a speech to parents during the Parent’s Forum. Seun has shown that he can handle anything he puts his mind to. This is an outstanding attribute of a leader and if he goes on this way, he will achieve much much more.

Responsibility results in reliability and is the ability to show sustainability in every activity one puts his or her mind to. Winston Churchill once said, “The price of greatness is responsibility”. Imbibe this trait and you will be offered privileges and opportunities. Responsibility is my close pal from today onwards. What’s yours?
