First Open Day of the year at Oxbridge!

It was another success story for the college on the 8^th of February, 2014, when we had our first Open Day of the year. Insight into what the day would look like began to emerge with the sheer number of people that started arriving  at the venue by 10am. By 11am, the college was literally filled with people. We could count close to 5 secondary schools in attendance as well as private visitors. Schools in attendance were ST & T  Schools, CMS Grammar School, Dansol High School, Wellspring College and Corona Secondary School. Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, a private university, also seized the opportunity to have a stand in the college hall.

The visiting schools had the customary welcoming session in the college reception, followed by a tour of our exemplary facilities. The culmination of the day took place in the hall, where the MD of the college, Dr.(Mrs.) C. O Ogunsanya, the principal, Ms.Scott and the Vice principal, Mrs. Tony-Ubah gave presentations.

However, an alumnus of the college, Ejike Ugwu’s testimony of his experience in the college and how it impacted positively on his career and life left an indelible impression. He spoke of how the name, Oxbridge gave him an edge.

Mrs.Olowu gave a parent’s perspective of Oxbridge. Her talk could be aptly summed up in her words “OXBRIDGE IS AN EXTENSION OF PARENTAL MORAL DUTIES”.

By 1:15pm what was obviously a successful outing came to an end. Kudos to all members of staff for their efforts and contributions.

First Open Day of the year at Oxbridge!

Oxbridge Vs Bridge House

On Friday the 31st of January there was a match between Oxbridge Tutorial College and Bridgehouse College.

Our team arrived at the stadium and almost immediately , busied themselves with warm-up exercises, in preparation for the game. Watching them warm-up, one could tell that Oxbridge meant business.

Bridgehouse arrived, dragging  nearly their whole school along with them. The match started properly around 2:50 pm. Our team scored

the very first goal of the day, nearly 5 minutes into the  match.

Within the next 10 minutes the second goal was scored by Oxbridge’s very own Uzoma. It was pretty amazing, in the first 15 minutes we were

already in the lead with two goals. Bridgehouse didn’t stand a chance. Jerry scored the last goal, earning him cheers from his teammates and

OTC supporters.

I don’t know how they [Bridgehouse] did it, but somehow they found a way to equalise with our stellar team. I believe it was pure coincidence or sheer luck, because they couldn’t score until they swapped sides. Let us not forget that the referee was from their school

I wish I could say that we suffered no harm whatsoever, but even the greatest warrior has battle scars.

The beauty of everything though was

that even injured, the players never lost passion. That was very commendable.

Even as a rookie in football, it wasn’t  hard to see that the OTC had it!!! Their footwork, teamwork, ball possession, strikers and

defenders were really something. Not to forget the fantastic work done by the goalie.

Queensland College Visits Oxbridge

As our Taster Days gain momentum we happily received Queensland College students recently. A cohort of their more senior students were taken around the campus on a guided tour by our SRC members, after which they were treated to participating in some of our classes and finally dining with the Oxbridge students.

It was another successful day that proved rewarding to visitors and hosts alike.

Want to be an A* student?

There is no short cut to success; this is the first thing you should remember. For this reason, you have to study well first of all, but the preparations are different for different types of exams.

STEP 1: Have confidence in your abilities; students who do not believe in their intellectual abilities develop fear before an exam, even when they are fully prepared for the exams. This will cause them to fail because they would be too busy being scared than writing the right answers .Hence they make silly mistakes. You have to be confident and it is the most essential power you should have for attaining victory.

STEP 2: Reading timetable; you should have a good reading timetable. Subjects that prove to be more difficult should be allocated more time

STEP 3: Conducive reading environment; it is advised that you read in an environment favourable to you and not the environment favourable to your friends. Do not be too comfortable but try to be relaxed. That way, you do not sleep off and you assimilate properly.

STEP 4: Plan your time properly; at this point in your life, you should know what works best for you. Is it reading late at night? Or very early in the morning? Or after a nap? Stick to the time that works best for

STEP 5: always ask questions when you are not clear in class and while reading, look for students that know it better than you. Do and ask for their help, it won’t hurt.

STEP 6: making of notes from your own understanding is advised. That way, you would be able to see things you have left out .Also ensure you revise past questions and previous tests or exams given, to see where you ought to put in more work.

STEP 7: while in the exam hall, try to be quiet and recall everything you have read. When you receive the question papers, take time to review and understand the questions, think and be calm do not be over excited, if it appears to be simple. Answer questions you know best first, then go back to the ones that seem difficult and tackle them.

STEP 8: Having played your own part, don’t forget the God factor. Pray continually to Him for strength and He will surely come to your aid.

Shocker Wednesday at Oxbridge Tutorial College

On the 22^nd of January 2014, at about 3:10pm, towards the end of lectures for that day, the students of Oxbridge TC were summoned to the hall, and that was the beginning of an epic wake up call to the students. Mr. Gbolade Okeowo and Mr. Omasa Muyiwa, who happen to be old students of Oxbridge TC, gave us the speech we needed to continue pushing on.

They spoke on a topic tagged ‘THE POWER OF HUMBLE BEGINNINGS’. Mr. Gbolade kicked off this little gathering by first giving us a simple, yet intriguing explanation of what the topic was all about. He did this with a short video on metamorphosis (how an egg hatches to form a caterpillar which eventually grows into a pupa and finally an adult butterfly).

At every stage, there is a new beginning where this soon to-be butterfly goes through so much pain, physically, mentally and emotionally just so it can embrace the oncoming change. He likened this to us, teenagers and emphasized  the fact that there would always be pain. He cited examples from Jeremy Lin, Beyonce and the likes that went through a tough time at some point or the other, but made it to the top. He told us that it would take consistency and practice for us to get to the finish line in glory and he likened this to Wolfgang Mozart, Usain Bolt, Warren Buffet and the likes. He also told us what Dr. K. Anders said ‘excellence is not just based on practice but deliberative practice’. He told us to keep on working on our skills till they are perfect or close to perfection and to settle for nothing less. He told us also to learn to give back to the society in our own little way and finally that we should learn to be industrious, put on your thinking caps and make the best use of it. 

At this point, he turned the mic over to his friend Mr. Muyiwa Omosa , who concluded the talk with words that hit home. He said the cemetery is the richest place in the world because there lies doctors that died drunkards, there lies schools that were never built, rich men and women that died drug addicts and prostitutes, presidents that died touts. And he pleaded with us not to add to the list of the treasure beneath the ground.

With that, the students of Oxbridge TC went home with so much to chew and digest.

Laurette College Visits Oxbridge

Students of Laureate College Mafoluku, Lagos and two of their teachers paid the college a visit on the 23^rd of January 2014, under Oxbridge Taster Day Session, where the door of the college was  open to interested schools to visit and have a first-hand experience of the educational services offered by the college.

The students and their teachers came as early as 9a.m. and this time round, we had a set of exciting students, who were so engrossed in the fun of exploring the college that they didn’t feel like leaving when it was time to go. They visited the classrooms, and other interesting areas in the college. They also had the opportunity to attend some classes with the college Vice-Principal. The day culminated in a lunch with Oxbridge students.

The visiting students shared their experiences and one could not but feel the impact of the visit on them:

Senebif Nanya, an SS3 girl  said, ‘I think it is the only college I see in Nigeria with a high standard. I think it is the right place for me on my journey to school in Canada.’ ’

Rajim Gbile had this to say, ‘The visit today was fun and I  enjoyed every bit of it. I attended a Further Maths class and the class was fun too. Students too were fun to be with. I hope to come back some day’’.

Chisom Isreal also shared his experience, ‘’A wonderful experience .I met wonderful people and wonderful facilities and I would really like to come back to the school’’. According to Chibuke, ‘’It was a nice experience, like home away from home.I learnt a lot from the Maths class and I hope to come here for my A ‘Levels’’.

By 2pm,it was time to go and not empty-handed as the Marketing Team of the college handed each visitor a goody bag.
